Mid-late JANUARY 2009....

We took a trip out to the LA Zoo, but it was a bit of an anti-climatic experience I have to admit. Most of the animals were either in hiding or asleep, plus Henry still doesn't seem to be that into the Zoo yet. Even the gorillas were just staring everyone down and being anti-social. The only attraction was a sad moaning noise coming from one of the lions, not sure what he was on about, but it sounded pretty lonely, like a broken heart. Who knows, maybe there's a strike going on in the animal kingdom. I probably would get pretty sick of people gawking at me after a while. The giraffes were nice, their legs were just these huge long stilts, so cool to watch them walk. I also like the gazelles, so elegant and slim.

Sheriff Peanut! This is Henry's new favorite place to plop down and chill, in the toy box. I think he likes to just scrunch up anywhere he can. A true Houdini.

Henry's Aunt Becky has been sending him cool hand-sewn pillow/letters ("pillowpes"or "pilletters"?) and here he is inspecting his pile. I'm amazed they've gotten through the postal service without first tearing them apart to inspect the stuffing.

JAN 20th, 2009 - Inauguration Day
We all watched President Obama get sworn in over some breakfast. Nicole even missed her doctor's appointment that day to check out his inspiring speech. The only criticism I have is, what was up with that lame poem Elizabeth Alexander read? With all the amazing poets and speakers out there, that was the best you could do? Really? Sorry, but Maya Angelou rocked it back in 1993 for Bill Clinton, hands down.

Henry posing in front of a painting we purchased from the talented local artist, Walt Hall, taken inside his bedroom. It fits perfectly in a nook above his dresser.

This month Henry started taking on self-feeding, as you can see here. We generally now feed him with 2 spoons, so we can still sneak in a few bites between his misses, and do some damage control at the same time. He's getting much better at his aim by the day.

This was a free eye exam that the Doheny Eye Institute was conducting, straight out of their mobile winnebago. Does anyone remember the 70's live action TV show of Shazam, where he rode around in a winnebago with that old guy? Sorry, I digress...but check out that super hero eye doctor with his magic swirly neon thingy! He's straight out of a Thomas Dolby video.
